Women's Basketball upended by Baldwin Wallace 79-67

Box Score BEREA, Ohio – Despite having one of its best shooting games of the season the Marietta College women's basketball team dropped a 79-67 decision at Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (Feb. 9) afternoon.

Marietta (8-15 overall, 3-13 OAC) hit nearly 55% of its field goal attempts including 68% in the second half. However, the Pioneers couldn't overcome the Yellow Jackets' 26 trips to the free line.

Baldwin Wallace (14-9 overall, 9-7 OAC) built an 11-point lead in the first half. Erin Allen drained a three-pointer with 4:31 left in the opening period for a 30-19 advantage.

The Pioneers closed the half with an 11-5 run trimming the BW lead to five, 35-30, at the break.

Sophomore Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) converted an old fashioned three-point play early in the second half to make it a one-point game, 43-42, in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Baldwin Wallace hit 12-of-14 free throw attempts over the next nine minutes of play to extend its lead to 16 points, 69-53, with 7:33 left in the game.

Marietta cut the deficit to single digits on two occasions, but Baldwin Wallace scored on the ensuing possession both times.

Senior Krissy Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) and junior Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) each scored 14 points to lead the Pioneers. Sophomores Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) and Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

A pair of Yellow Jackets tallied double-doubles. Audrey Smolik led all scorers with 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Lexi Rohrbach had 10 points and 10 boards, while Jessica Lairson recorded 19 points.

For the game, Marietta shot 54.9% (28-of-51) from the floor, 66.7% (4-of-6) from three-point range and 77.8% (7-of-9) at the line. Baldwin Wallace hit 27-of-60 (45.0%) from the floor, 6-of-15 (40.0%) behind the arc and 19-of-26 (73.1%) at the line.

Baldwin Wallace dominated the glass pulling down 41 rebounds to just 21 for the Pioneers. Marietta committed 14 turnovers, while the Yellow Jackets turned the ball over 13 times.
