Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Junior
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) scored a career-high 26 points leading Marietta College to a 89-84 overtime win against the University of Mount Union Wednesday (Feb. 13) evening. Marietta improves to 9-15 overall and 4-13 in the OAC, while Mount Union falls to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the OAC.
Dixon, who hit six three-pointers in the game, drained a trey at the end of regulation to tie the game, 80-80, and force the overtime. Dixon finished the game 9-of-12 from the floor including 6-of-9 behind the arc.
Neither team led by more than five points in the game. The battle featured 19 ties and 16 lead changes.
Mount Union senior Rosa LaMattina scored 14 first-half points as the Purple Raiders took a 38-35 lead into the break. LaMattina added 14 more in the second half but was held scoreless in overtime. She finished with 28 points.
The Pioneers scored first in overtime taking an 82-80 lead. A pair of free throws from each team and a layup from Marybeth Leitch left the game tied 84-84 with 1:10 remaining in the extra period.
Following a Marietta timeout, sophomore
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) put the Pioneers in front for good on a layup with 46 seconds on the clock. Mount Union turned the ball over on the next possession and was forced to put Marietta on the line.
Senior
Krissy Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) hit one of two free throws making it 87-84 with 19 seconds left. The Purple Raiders missed their next shot and freshman
Emily Jones (Dublin/Dublin Scioto) grabbed the rebound for Marietta. Dixon hit two free throws with eight seconds on the clock to seal the victory.
In addition to Dixon's 26 points, sophomore
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Rowe and Booth each finished with 14 points, while junior
Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) notched her first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Jones gave the Pioneers quality minutes off the bench. The rookie played a career-high 26 minutes and scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, both career-highs.
Tierney Allen and Annie Bova scored 14 and 13 points, respectively for Mount Union. Allen had a team-high 11 rebounds and dished out four assists. Aly Daniel added 10 points.
Marietta shot 52.5% (32-of-61) from the floor, 57.9% (11-of-19) from three-point range and 73.7% (14-of-19) at the line. Mount Union made 30-of-76 (39.5%) from the floor, 11-of-30 (36.7%) behind the arc and 13-of-15 (86.7%) at the charity stripe.
Marietta won the battle of the boards 46-33. The Pioneers turned the ball over 20 times, while Mount Union committed just seven turnovers.
