WESTERVILLE, Ohio – No. 22-ranked Marietta College rolled over Otterbein University 109-72 Wednesday (Dec. 4) evening in men's basketball action. The game was the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
Otterbein (1-5 overall, 0-1 OAC) took the early lead but
Brennan McKean (Jeromesville, Ohio/Northwestern) hit the first of his five three-pointers to give Marietta the lead, 15-13, with 14:26 left in the first half. The Pioneers never trailed again.
Marietta (5-1 overall, 1-0 OAC) shot over 60% from the floor in both halves as the Cardinals struggled to stay up with the Pioneer onslaught. Marietta hit 10 three-pointers in the game to go along with 59 points scored in the paint.
McKean led the Pioneers with 19 points hitting 5-of-7 from long range.
A.J. Davis (Naples, Fla./Palmetto Ridge) connected of 5-of-6 shot attempts and finished with 14 points.
Garrett Stephenson (West Milton/Milton-Union) had his way inside notching a double-double with 13 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
Andy Dollman (Vienna, W.Va./Parkersburg) and freshman
Keith Richardson (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dollman dished out four assists, while Richardson had five.
Jake Bischoff led three Cardinals in double figures with 18 points. Grant Fenner scored 13 off the bench and Andy Yazrombek added 11 points. Jon Juergens grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Marietta shot a sizzling 63.2% (43-of-68) from the floor, 55.6% (10-of-18) from three-point range and 68.4% (13-of-19) at the free throw line. Otterbein hit 25-of-73 (34.2%) from the field, 5-of-27 (18.5%) behind the arc and 17-of-25 (68.0%) at the line.
The Pioneers won the battle of the boards, 48-32. Otterbein forced 13 Marietta turnovers and committed just seven of their own.
