Dixon and Women's Basketball tame the Terriers 83-67

MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College withstood a barrage of early three-pointers from Hiram College and pulled away in the second half to post an 83-67 win Monday (Dec. 30) in women's basketball. The Pioneers finished the 2013 portion of their schedule with a 7-4 overall record. Hiram falls to 4-7 on the season.

The Pioneers shot 52% from the floor in the first half and turned the ball over just five times but only led by four 40-36, at the break. Hiram used seven treys to stay in the game in the first 20 minutes.

After the intermission however, Hiram's long-range shooting touch disappeared. The Terries connected on only 2-of-15 behind the arc in the second half as Marietta gradually increased its lead. The Pioneers led by as many as 20 points, 79-59, with 2:43 l3ft in the game.

Senior Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) drained six three-pointers, equaling her career-high, and finished with 24 points. Dixon made three treys in each half, but scored 15 of her game-high 24 points in the second period.

The junior tandem of Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) and Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) had another strong showing for the Pioneers. Alexander was a perfect 8-of-8 from the floor and finished with 18 points and six rebounds. Booth added 12 points.

Fellow junior Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) pulled down a career-best seven rebounds to go along with eight points, while senior Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) grabbed six boards.

Hiram was led by junior Kelsey Koskinen's 22 points. Koskinen hit five three-pointers and was 7-of-14 from the floor. Senior Alexis Kemper scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds, while freshman Dana Perrotta had eight boards and five assists.

Marietta edged Hiram on the glass, 36-35. The Pioneers forced 15 Terrier turnovers, while committing just 10.

For the game, Marietta shot 52.4% (33-of-63) from the floor, 47.1% (8-of-17) behind the arc and 52.9% (9-of-17) at the free throw line. Hiram was 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the floor, 9-of-30 (30.0%) from three-point range and 10-of-18 (55.6%) at the line.
