PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Marietta College scored the first 10 points of the game en route to a 93-61 win over Chatham University Saturday (Nov. 23) afternoon in women's basketball action. The win is Marietta's third straight as the Pioneers improve to 3-1 on the season. Chatham falls to 1-3 overall.
Marietta had another strong offensive showing. The Pioneers have scored over 90 points in three straight games for the first time in program history. Shooting nearly 60% from the floor in the first half, Marietta led 55-29 at halftime.
Marietta started the second half with an 18-4 run to push the margin to 39 points, 73-34, with 12:58 left on the clock. A jumper from freshman
Tristin Toman (Pennsboro, W.Va./Ritchie County) at the 9:01 mark gave the Pioneers their biggest lead of the game, 84-38.
Freshman
Mackenzie Kiser (Windham/Champion) equaled her career-high with 16 points to lead the Pioneers. Junior
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) added 12 points, while seniors
Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) and
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) scored 10 points apiece.
Dixon hit two from three-point range and is now tied for the career mark at Marietta with 162 treys. Dixon is tied with Amanda Carraher (2005-2009).
The Pioneers crushed Chatham on the glass, 57-30. 13 different Pioneers had a rebound in the game as junior
Sierra Sigman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) grabbed a game-high seven.
Rachel McClain scored 15 points to pace Chatham. Becky Rowe added 10 points in the losing effort.
For the game, Marietta hit 34-of-74 (45.9%) from the floor, 7-of-16 (43.8%) behind the arc and 18-of-26 (69.2%) at the line. Chatham was 17-of-54 (31.5%) from the floor, 4-of-17 (23.5%) from three-point range and 23-of-30 (76.7%) at the line.
Marietta is off until after Thanksgiving when the Pioneers host the 29th annual Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot sponsored by BSN Sports. Marietta and Mount Saint Joseph open the tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 30). Kenyon and Ohio Valley ply at 7:30 p.m.
