Baldwin Wallace downs Women's Soccer 5-1 in season finale

BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team ended its season with a 5-1 loss at Baldwin Wallace University Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon. The Pioneers finish 2-16 overall and 0-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallace improves to 14-5 overall and 5-4 in the OAC.

Nine Pioneer seniors completed their playing career Saturday. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange), midfielder Melina Feitl (Broadview Heights/Holy Name), midfielder Emily Jones (Loudon, Tenn./Northville (Mich.)), forward Becca Thomas (Kent/Kent Roosevelt), midfielder Mattie Stowell (Ashtabula/Lakeside), midfielder Danielle Falkner (Akron/Green), defender Katie Gordon (Mentor/Mentor), defender Stacey Smith (Cambridge/John Glenn) and defender Rachel Hartong (Mt. Vernon/Mount Vernon) all wore the Navy Blue and White for the final time.

Despite a huge 14-2 advantage in shots during the first half, Baldwin Wallace failed to get anything by Pearse in goal. Pearse had eight saves in the opening period to keep the teams even at the half, 0-0.

The Yellow Jackets scored early and often in the second half. Sami Riveron opened the scoring in the 52nd minute with an assist from Kari Trivisonno.

Stowell took a pass from junior Stevie Reilly (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park Senior) and beat BW keeper Emily Tallmadge to even the match, 1-1, in the 57th minute. It was Stowell's second goal of the season.

Baldwin Wallace got goals from Lindsey Mikula (74th minute), Cheryl Bell (79th), Nicole Boyd (80th) and Heather Keller (86th) to secure the 5-1 victory.

For the match, Baldwin Wallace outshot Marietta 29-5 and had a 14-2 advantage in corner kicks. Pearse finished with 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers, while Tallmadge had three for BW.
