Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer concludes season with 2-0 loss at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio – After knocking Otterbein University out of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament earlier in the week, the Marietta College men's soccer team set its sights on Baldwin Wallace University. The Yellow Jackets had other thoughts and used a pair of second half goals to defeat the Pioneer 2-0 Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon.

Marietta finishes the season 4-13-1 overall and 1-7-1 in the OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 7-10-3 overall and 5-4 in the OAC. The Yellow Jackets will be the No. 5 seed in next week's OAC Tournament.

The two defenses dominated the first half as the two schools combined for just three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes. Baldwin Wallace did mange six corner kicks in the opening period but failed to convert any into goals.

BW broke the scoreless tie in the 48th minute. Cody Smith went lower right for his third goal of the season. Zach Smith and Michael Brennan assisted on the game-winner.

The Yellow Jackets did score off a corner in the 51st minute. Patrick O'Malley's corner kick found Trey Arney in the box who put it away for his first goal of the season.

Marietta didn't go quietly as the Pioneers took eight shots in the second half and forced the BW keeper to make four saves.

Senior goalkeeper Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) made eight saves in the match and finished his career with 393 saves, good for second on the Pioneers' all-time list. Ken Rickvalsky (1980-83) holds the school record with 408 career saves.

In addition to Stollar, goalkeepers Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford) and Joe Unger, midfielder Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington), midfielder Tim Hemenway (Albion, Mich./Harper Creek), midfielder Miles Alexander (Bellbrook/Bellbrook) and defender Ryan Stephens (Enon/South Point) all concluded their careers in the Navy Blue and White Saturday.
