MARIETTA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University scored 24 unanswered points to defeat Marietta College 31-7 Saturday (Nov. 2) afternoon at Don Drumm Stadium. The win was the seventh in a row in the series for the Yellow Jackets.
Marietta (1-7 overall, 1-6 OAC) outgained the Yellow Jackets, 360-313, in total offense, but BW's 255 rushing yards proved to be the difference in the game.
Baldwin Wallace (6-2 overall, 5-2 OAC) opened the scoring in the first quarter. Junior quarterback Kyle Ohradanzky scampered 11 yards to cap a 13-play, 71-yard drive. Chris Mohler added the point after for a 7-0 lead with 8:47 left in the opening period.
The Pioneers answered right back to even the score, 7-7. Following a 15-yard kickoff return by
Charles Dixon (Columbus/Groveport Madison), Marietta went to work at its own 27-yard line.
Junior running back
Tim Conner (Cleveland/Glenville) carried the ball nine times for 35 yards on the scoring drive including the final three yards for the touchdown.
Garret Butler (Williamstown, W.Va/Williamstown) added the point after to even the score.
It appeared that the score would remain tied going into halftime as the Pioneers took possession of the football at their own 45-yard line with 33 seconds left on the clock. But a 43-yard interception return by Dan O'Brien gave BW the lead, 14-7, at the break.
Following halftime, the Yellow Jackets went to the ground game and sophomore running back Issac Reed. Reed gained 81 of his 101 rushing yards in the second half and scored on runs of 13 yards and four yards.
Reed scored from 13 yards out to extend the BW lead to 21-7 with 6:05 left in the third quarter. Mohler hit a 35-yard field goal on the first play of the fourth quarter and Reed added a final touchdown with 9:58 left on the clock for a 31-7 lead.
Marietta was its own worst enemy having two long touchdown passes from senior quarterback
Tom Fulton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) to senior wide receiver
Kirby Harris (Greenville, S.C./South Side) called back for penalties. The Pioneers were called for 77 yards in penalties on the day.
Conner finished the day with 71 yards rushing on 21 carries. Fulton completed 14-of-27 passes for 195 yards, but was picked off three times.
