UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – John Carroll University got three goals from its bench to defeat Marietta College by the score of 4-0 Saturday (Oct. 12) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Blue Streaks improve to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC. Marietta falls to 3-9 and 0-3 OAC.
Senior Mariusz Trzeciak came off the bench and scored John Carroll's first goal of the match in the 38th minute. Another substitute, freshman Tim Delaney, made it 2-0 with a goal at the 41:59 mark with an assist from Trzeciak.
Sophomore Jimmy Mattina headed in a cross from Brian Potocnik in the 70th minute to extend the JCU lead. Senior Wycliffe Odhiambo finished the scoring with a goal in the 84th minute.
Marietta struggled to get its attack going and managed just five shots in the match. The Pioneers' leading scorer, junior
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta), was held without a shot.
Senior
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) stared in goal for the Pioneers and made seven saves. Senior
Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford) played the final five minutes in net without making a save.
Junior Chris Garbinsky played the entire match in goal for the Blue Streaks and made one save. It was Garbinsky's second shutout of the season.
For the match, John Carroll took 33 shots to just five for the Pioneers. The Blue Streaks held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.
