Turnovers plague Women's Basketball in 62-57 loss at Muskingum

Box Score NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Muskingum University posted a 62-57 come fom behind victory over Marietta College Wednesday (Jan. 30) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball. The loss drops the Pioneers to 6-14 overall and 1-12 in the OAC.

Muskingum (7-13 overall, 2-11 OAC) outscored Marietta 25-7 over the final 8:02 to pull out the win and split the season series with the Pioneers. Turnovers plagued Marietta during the Muskie run as the Pioneers turned the ball over seven times down the stretch.

The Pioneers held the lead for most of the first half and took a two-point advantage, 30-28, into the break. Marietta built a 13-point lead in the second half before Muskingum started its come back.

Junior Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) led the Pioneers with 17 points hitting 5-of-6 from three-point range. Sophomore Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds, while senior Krissy Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) added 10 points. Sophomore Lindsay Deemer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Jendy Weppler paced the Muskies with 19 points. Hannah Nelson scored 11 points and had nine rebounds. Tori Jarrett added 10 points and seven boards, while Meghan Billick had eight points and 10 rebounds.

For the game, Marietta shot 42.3% (22-of-52) from the floor, 53.3% (8-of-15) behind the arc and just 29.4% (5-of-17) at the line. Muskingum hit 21-of-64 (32.8%) from the floor, 3-of-23 (13.0%) from the three and 17-of-31 (54.8%) at the charity stripe.

Muskingum edged the Pioneers on the glass, 44-42. The difference in the game was Marietta's 20 turnovers to the Muskies' seven.

Marietta hosts Heidelberg University on Saturday (Feb. 2) at 1:00 p.m. in the first half of the Winter Weekend doubleheader.
