No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern defeats Women's Basketball 61-44

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – The No. 8-ranked Ohio Northern University women's basketball team defeated Marietta College by the score of 61-44 Saturday (Jan. 26) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The Polar Bears have won a school-record 17 straight games and are now 18-1 overall and 12-0 in the OAC. The Pioneers fall to 6-13 on the season and 1-11 in league play.

A jumper from junior Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) at the 16:08 mark gave Marietta an early 9-3 lead.

Following a bucket from sophomore Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) that gave the Pioneers a 16-15 lead with 10:02 left in the first half, the Polar Bears went on a 12-0 run to take an 11-point lead, 27-16 with 7:40 on the clock. Ohio Northern never relinquished the lead.

After closing the first half with a 4-0 run, the Pioneers trailed by six, 32-26, at halftime. Marietta played the Polar Bears tough in the opening minutes of the second half and cut the deficit to five, 35-30, at the 15:30 mark.

Ohio Northern responded with a 6-0 run and would eventually push the margin to as many as 19 points.

Alexander and senior Krissy Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) each scored 11 points to lead the Pioneers. Alexander grabbed six rebounds and had four steals. Sophomore Lindsay Deemer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) had a game-high 11 rebounds, Lamb pulled down nine boards.

Ohio Northern junior Cenzie Yoder led all scorers with 13 points. Senior Morgan Dumbaugh had 10 points, while senior Joanna Snyder added eight points and 10 rebounds.

For the game, Marietta shot 29.3% (17-of-58) from the floor, 21.4% (3-of-14) from three-point range and 53.8% (7-of-13) at the line. Ohio Northern was 21-of-56 (37.5%) from the floor, 7-of-19 (36.8%) behind the arc and 12-of-16 (75.0%) at the charity stripe.

Marietta won the battle of the boards by a 45-37 margin. The Pioneers committed 19 turnovers while the Polar Bears turned the ball over 11 times.
