Women's Basketball falls on the road at Wilmington 64-52

Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio – Wilmington College scored the first five points of the game and never trailed as the Quakers defeated Marietta College by the score of 64-52 Saturday (Jan. 19) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action.

Marietta (6-11 overall, 1-9 OAC) got within a point, 5-4, after senior Krissy Rowe (Toledo/Sylvania Southview) hit a pair of free throws at the 16:40 mark of the first half. Wilmington (10-7, 6-4 OAC) exploded for an 14-1 run over the next four minutes to build its biggest lead of the game, 19-5.

The lead hovered around double digits the rest of the period and Wilmington took a 12-point lead, 42-30, into the locker room at halftime.

Wilmington kept the lead in double figures until midway through the second half. A pair of layups from sophomore Sierra Sigman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) cut the deficit to six points, 50-44, with 10:29 left in the game.

Again the Quakers answered. A 9-0 run capped by a Makenzie Wippel layup with 5:21 remaining pushed the lead back to 14 points, 59-45, and sealed the victory.

Sophomore Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) led the Pioneers with 13 points. Junior Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Wilmington's Brianna Peters was the lone Quaker to reach double digits with 13 points. Peters also pulled down eight rebounds. Courtney Tucker and Shelby Kies each scored nine points and LeAnn Topp had a hame-high nine rebounds.

Marietta shot 33.3% (18-of-54) from the floor for the game, 16.7% (2-of-12) behind the arc and 51.9% (14-of-27) at the line. Wilmington hit 20-of-59 (33.9%) from the floor, 5-of-17 (29.4%) from three-point range and 19-of-23 (82.6%) from the charity stripe.

Wilmington won the battle of the boards, 50-35. Marietta committed 13 turnovers and forced the Quakers to turn the ball over 16 times.
