Box Score 2 LEXINGTON, Va. – Day two of the Washington and Lee Invitational brought another split for the Marietta College volleyball team. The Pioneers defeated Southern Virginia University 3-0 and lost to North Carolina Wesleyan College 3-1. Marietta is 7-2 on the season.
Marietta swept the Knights 25-12, 25-15 and 25-8. Freshman middle blocker
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) registered six kills. Sophomore
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) and freshman outside hitter
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) each had five.
Hackenberg added three blocks on defense. Middle blocker Kathryn Hanssen turned back three Knight attacks. Senior libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) notched 10 digs.
Sophomore setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) had 21 assists and three service aces. Junior
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) added four aces.
In the final match of the weekend, North Carolina Wesleyan defeated the Pioneers 21-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-22.
Hackenberg led Marietta with 12 kills earning all-tournament honors for the second straight weekend. Junior outside hitter
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) chipped in with 10 kills.
Mauer and Braun were tops in assists and digs with 33 and 20, respectively. Sophomore
Brittney Merritt (Akron/Copley) posted 16 digs and two aces.
Marietta returns home to host West Liberty University on Tuesday (Sept. 11) at 7 p.m.
