Scranton blanks Men's Soccer 3-0

Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. – The University of Scranton men's soccer team defeated Marietta College by the score of 3-0 Friday (Sept. 7) evening. With the loss, the Pioneers fall to 1-2 on the season while Scranton improves to 3-0.

The Royals were the beneficiaries of a penalty kick in the 15th minute. Junior midfielder Bill McGuiness converted the penalty for a 1-0 Scranton lead.  McGuiness tallied his second goal of the match, this time with an assist from forward Ryan Smith, in the 39th minute.

Sophomore forward Kevin Kozic closed out the scoring for Scranton with an unassisted goal in the 66th minute of play.

The Royals outshot the Pioneers 17-5 for the match. Scranton also held a 10-2 edge in corner kicks.

Junior keeper Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) played the entire match in goal for the Pioneers making six saves. Senior James Dillon had three saves and posted the shutout in net for Scarnton.

Marietta plays at King's College on Sunday (Sept. 9) at 12 p.m.
