Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team won a five-set thriller over visiting Carnegie Mellon University Wednesday (Sept. 5) night. The Pioneers dropped the first two sets before sweeping the final three en route to the victory.
The set scores were 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 27-25 and 16-14. Marietta improves to 5-0 on the season while Carnegie Mellon falls to 0-5.

Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) with 23. Middle blockers
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) and Kathryn Hanssen had 12 and 10 kills, respectively.
Sophomore setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) piloted the offense with 56 assists. She added 16 digs. Senior libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had a match-high 36 digs. Freshman
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) also posted 16 digs from the back row.
Hackenberg and Hanssen helped control the net with five blocks each. Freshman
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) blocked three CMU attacks, while senior
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) turned back two.
Mariett travels to Lexington, Va. this weekend to play in the Washington & Lee University Invitational. The Pioneers play Lynchburg College on Friday (Sept. 7) at 2:30 p.m. followed by a 7:30 p.m. contest with the host school. The tournament concludes with a pair of matches on Saturday.
