Wooster drops Women's Soccer by the score of 3-1

WOOSTER, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision to the Fighting Scots Wednesday (Sept. 5) evening. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 on the season while Wooster improves to 3-0.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes. Wooster controlled the game taking nine shots and seven corner kicks to one shot and two corners for Marietta in the opening period.

The Fighting Scots drew first blood when Crystal Chavez took a long pass from Erika Kay and buried the ball into the right corner of the net in the 51st minute.

Marietta battle right back with the equalizer in the 56th minute. Junior #Melina Feitl (Broadview Heights/Holy Name )# sent a cross into the box from the right side where senior #Holly Simms (Pickerington/North)# collected it and beat the Wooster keeper for her first goal of the season.

Kay scored the game-winner in the 60th minute off an assist from Paige Piper. Piper added an unassisted insurance goal less than a minute later.

Michele Ring had three saves in net for Wooster, while junior #Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange)# recorded 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers.

Wooster tallied 23 shots to Marietta's six. The Scots also won the corner kick battle with 10, while the Pioneers had one.

The Pioneers open their home schedule this weekend by hosting the Marietta Classic. Marietta plays Westminster on Saturday (Sept. 8) at 5 p.m. and then face Bethany on Sunday at 3 p.m.
