Box Score 2 GAMBIER, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team won a pair of in-region matches Saturday (Sept. 22) afternoon. Playing at Kenyon College, the Pioneers posted 3-1 wins over both Hiram and Kenyon. Marietta improves to 12-4 on the season. Hiram is 13-3 and Kenyon is 3-9 on the season.
Hiram hit a blazing .618 to win the first set 25-13. The Pioneers responded by sweeping the next three sets 25-23, 25-20 and 25-15 to win the match.
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) each had 11 kills to lead the Pioneer attack against Hiram.
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) added eight kills, while
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) posted three blocks.
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) directed the attack with 33 assists.
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) recorded three service aces and
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) notched 18 digs on the back line.
Kenyon also won the first set before seeing the Pioneers take the next three. The set scores were 26-28, 25-18, 25-16 and 25-14.
Horton and Kathryn Hanssen were Marietta's leading attackers with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Hackenberg and Clyde each had eight kills.
Hanssen dominated the net blocking eight Kenyon attacks. Horton added three blocks.
Mauer dished out a match-high 36 assists and had 11 digs. Braun posted a match-high 14 digs and
Brittney Merritt (Akron/Copley) added 10.
Marietta heads back into league play on Friday (Sept. 28) with a 7 p.m. match at Heidelberg University.
