Riley hat trick leads Men's Soccer over Penn State Beaver

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College men's soccer scored early and often en route to a 7-0 season opening win over Penn State Beaver in the Marietta Soccer Classic Saturday (Sept. 1) afternoon. The Pioneers will face Methodist University, a 4-0 winner over Wooster, in the championship match at noon on Sunday.

Sophomore Scott Eilmann (North Royalton/North Royalton) got the Pioneers on the board less than two minutes into the match with an assist from senior Brandon Siringer (Willowick/Eastlake North).

Fellow sophomore Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) dominated the next 20 minutes recording a hat trick. Riley scored unassisted goals in the third and 24th minutes. In between he scored on an assist from classmate Todd Sabol (Barberton/Barberton) in the 14th minute.

With Marietta leading 4-0, Siringer got in on the fun scoring his first goal of the season in the 33rd minute with an assist from junior Miles Alexander (Bellbrook/Bellbrook). Siringer then picked up his second assist of the match when senior Tony Mata (Houston, Texas/South) took his pass and scored in the 44th minute giving the Pioneers a 6-0 lead at halftime.

Freshman Dylan McLean (Carrollton/Carrollton) finished the scoring with his first collegiate goal, McLean tallied an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute.

Senior defender Ben Federici (Findlay/Findlay) anchored a back line that allowed Penn State just four shots in the match, none on goal.

Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta), Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford) and Peter Stoll (Newark/Newark) split time in goal for the Pioneers.

Marietta took 21 shots, including 11 on goal. The Pioneers had seven corners to Penn State's one.
