Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Marietta College women's soccer team scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 shutout of Waynesburg (Pa.) College Saturday (Sept. 15) afternoon. The Pioneers are 2-5 overall and the Yellow Jackets are 4-2 on the season.
Senior midfielder
Erin Panczyk (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) scored an unassisted goal in the 17th minute for the game winner. It was her first goal of the season.
Junior midfielder
Danielle Falkner (Akron/Green ), tied for the team lead with two goals and four points, extended the Pioneers' lead with an unassisted goal in the 71st minute.
Waynesburg's attack kept the pressure on the Pioneer defense all afternoon taking 20 shots. Marietta junior keeper Kaitlin Pearse rose to the occasion making six saves and recording her second shutout of the season.
Ciara Scott had two saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets.
For the match, the Pioneers took six shots. Waynesburg won the corner kick battle with six corners to Marietta's one.
Marietta is back in action on Wednesday (Sept. 19) with a 7 p.m. match at Washington and Jefferson (Pa.) College.
