Women's Soccer falls in season opener

Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. – The Marietta College women's soccer team dropped their season opener to Transylvania University by the score of 3-0 at the Centre College Showcase Friday (Aug. 31) evening. The Pioneers will face the host school tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.

Transylvania scored two goals in the first half, including the first one just over eight minutes into the game. A goal in the 35th minute gave them a 2-0 lead at halftime. Transylvania added an insurance goal in the 57th minute.

Transylvania kept the pressure on Marietta taking 10 shots and 12 corner kicks in the first half. They finished with 25 shots, including 16 shots on goal, and 19 corner kicks.

Junior midfielder Amy Ghibaudy scored the first and third goals, while Michelle Schroeck, also a junior midfielder, tallied the other Transylvania goal. All three goals were unassisted.

Marietta junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) recorded 13 saves in the match. Senior midfielder Holly Simms (Pickerington/North) took Marietta's lone shot.

Sophomore Jerrica Scovel had one save in net for Transylvania.
