Capital defeats Women's Basketball

Box Score BEXLEY, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team could not hold on to its halftime lead over Capital University as it fell 78-60 Wednesday (Feb. 15) night on the road. The Pioneers fall to 10-14 overall and 5-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital is now 16-8 overall and 11-6 in the OAC. [Box Score]

Junior post Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) finished the game with a game-high 18 points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Sierra Sigman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) added 10 points in the loss. Sophomore guard Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) scored eight points with three rebounds.

Jamie Caton led Capital with 17 points and two rebounds off the bench. Shalena Hawkins, Hilary Kuhns and Rebekah Will all recorded 14 points and four rebounds for the Crusaders in the win.

Marietta fought back from a seven-point deficit early on to build a 37-29 lead with 1:30 left in the first half. Capital closed the half on a 6-0 run to trail 37-35 at the break.

The Pioneers fell behind early in the second half, but stayed with the Crusaders trailing 51-45 with 12:42 left in the game. Capital then pushed the lead to double-digits down the stretch as Marietta had no answer and fell 78-60.

Marietta finished the game shooting 40.7% (24-of-59) from the field, 42.9% (6-of-14) from three-point range and 100% (6-of-6) from the charity stripe.

Capital shot 52.4% (33-of-63) from the field, 20% (2-of-10) from three and 58.8% (10-of-17) from the free throw line.

Capital held a 39-29 advantage on the boards and committed 15 turnovers compared to 19 for the Pioneers.

Marietta will wrap up its regular season schedule on Saturday (Feb. 18) with a trip to John Carroll. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
