Women’s Basketball takes down Heidelberg on Senior Day

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team halted its six-game losing skid with a 86-69 victory over the Heidelberg Student Princes on Saturday (Feb. 11) afternoon inside Ban Johnson Arena. Marietta, 10-13 overall and 5-11 in the OAC, sits in a tie for seventh in the conference with John Carroll. Heidelberg falls to 4-19 overall and 1-15 in league play. [Box Score]

Heidelberg came out the aggressor early on as the Student Princes built an early 15-9 advantage with 11:22 left in first half. The Pioneers responded with a 17-2 run to lead 27-17 with 5:28 to go before intermission. Marietta went into the locker room leading 43-34 at the break with 10 players in the scoring column.

The Pioneers controlled the second half from start to finish, building the lead to 20 points on two different occasions.

Junior post Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) led the Pioneers with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Junior guard Kristeva Rowe scored 13 points with a game-high four assists.

Freshman post Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) and sophomore guard Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) each added 12 points in the Pioneer victory. Freshman post Lindsay Deemer (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) notched seven rebounds.

Heidelberg was led by Kathleen Phillips with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Paige Ricketts scored 10 points in the loss.

Marietta finished the game shooting 45.6% (31-of-68) from the field, 42.9% (9-of-21) from behind the arc and 60% (15-of-25) from the free throw line.

Heidelberg shot 35% (21-of-60) from the field, 8.3% (1-of-12) from three and 76.5% (26-of-34) from the charity stripe.

The Pioneers held a 45-41 advantage on the boards while both teams committed 14 turnovers.

The Pioneers will hit the road for its final two regular season games with its first stop at Capital on Wednesday (Feb. 15) night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
