WOOSTER, Ohio – Marietta College scored the first 12 points of the game as the Pioneers defeated Geneva College (Pa.) 92-50 in men's basketball action Friday (Dec. 28) evening. The game was the first of the 50th annual E.M. Mose Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic.
The College of Wooster posted an 81-67 win over John Carroll University in tonight's second game. Marietta and the Fighting Scots play tomorrow in the final game of the classic.
Senior #
J.J. Martin (Huntington, W.Va./Huntington)# scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half as the Pioneers dominated the paint all evening. Marietta finished the game with a 44-12 advantage on points scored in the paint.
Marietta showed no signs of rust after 11 days off for Christmas. The Pioneers hit six of their first seven shots and finished the first half shooting 55.9% (19-of-34) from the floor.
Senior #
Scott Kimmey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls)# led all scorers with 17 points. Kimmey was 6-of-7 from the floor including 3-of-4 from three-point range. He also grabbed a team-high five rebounds.
Sophomore #
Brennan McKean (Jeromesville, Ohio/Northwestern)# chipped in with 11 points and four boards. Junior #
Matt Napier (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# added nine points off the bench, while junior point guard #
Tyler Hammond (Cleveland/St. Ignatius)# dished out a game-high five assists.
Senior Jordan Harbison's 12 points led the Golden Tornadoes. Classmate Matt Lorello scored eight points and pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.
For the game Marietta shot 50.7% (37-of-73) from the floor, 31.3% (10-of-32) from three-point range and 50.0% (8-of-16) at the line. Geneva hit 17-of-57 (29.8%) from the floor, 8-of-22 (36.4%) behind the arc and 8-of-12 (66.7%) at the line.
The Pioneers won the battle of the boards, 46-38. Marietta forced 20 Geneva turnovers while committing just five of its own.
