Filkovski resigns as Head Football Coach

11/14/2012 4:30:00 PM

MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced the resignation of head football coach Jeff Filkovski Wednesday (Nov. 14) afternoon.

“Marietta College would like to thank Coach Filkovski for his dedication to Pioneer football over the past five years,” Hiser said. “We appreciate the work he did building a program that contributed to many campus initiatives. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Filkovski posted a record of 10-40 in five years at the helm of the Marietta program. He led the Pioneers to an upset of No. 7-ranked Otterbein, 25-22, on a last second touchdown pass in 2009.

Prior to this fall, 18 of Filkovski's players earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors including first team recognition for Lamar Hunter (2009) and Adam Tate (Chesterhill/Federal Hocking) (2010). In addition, nine Pioneers earned Academic All-OAC accolades under Filkovski's tutelage.

Filkovski came to Marietta after serving as the offensive coordinator at Heidelberg University where he was named the OAC Co-Assistant Coach of the Year in 2007. Prior to Heidelberg, Filkovski was the offensive coordinator for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe.

Filkovski played collegiately at Allegheny College (Pa.). The Gators' starting quarterback, Filkovski led Allegheny to a 13-0-1 record and the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1990.

A national search will begin immediately for Marietta College's next head football coach. Until that person is named, five-year veteran coach Drew Mohr will serve as interim head football coach.
