Brandon Siringer (Willowick/Eastlake North)#, one of four Pioneer seniors honored before the match, put Marietta on top with a goal in the 36th minute. With the ball loose in front of the Yellow Jacket net, Siringer got a shot off placing the ball inside the left post for his fourth goal of the season.
Baldwin Wallace stayed on the attack most of the first half taking twice as many shots as Marietta, 10 to 5. However, the Yellow Jackets couldn't figure out how to get the ball past Pioneer goalkeeper #
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta)#.
Stollar made six saves in the first 45 minutes of play denying BW the equalizer. Stollar had several spectacular saves including two in the first few minutes of the match.
Baldwin Wallace knotted the score at 1-1 in the 73rd minute. The Pioneers were called for a foul giving the Yellow Jackets a direct kick from 30-yards. Ben Deighton took the kick for BW and rocketed the ball past a diving #
Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford)#, who took over for Stollar in goal at the start of the second half.
The Yellow Jackets took the lead four minutes later. Mike Womack sent a long pass from beyond midfield into the 18-yard box where Thomas Kramer collected the ball and shot it inside the far post for the game-winner.
Marietta turned up the heat on the Yellow Jacket defense trying to even the score. BW's Ryan Huling was equally impressive in goal as he turned away five Pioneer shots in the second half, none more important than the final one of the match.
With 1:57 left in the match Baldwin Wallace was whistled for a very questionable handball in the box giving Marietta a penalty kick. #
Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington)# fired the shot toward the lower left corner of the net but Huling blocked the shot to preserve the 2-1 victory for the Yellow Jackets.
