The Purple Raiders scored the first 11 points of the game and never trailed. Sophomore
Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) hit a three-pointer for the Pioneers' first points of the game at the 16:30 mark of the first half. A
Bailey Topf (Sugar Grove/Logan) jumper a minute later cut the lead to 11-5.
That would be as close as Marietta would get all game. Mount Union took a 40-22 lead into halftime.
Freshman
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) scored 17 points off the bench to lead the Pioneers. Booth hit 7-of-13 from the floor and was a perfect 3-of-3 at the line. She also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Marietta junior
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) scored 13 points and pulled down eight caroms. Sophomore
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) chipped in with nine points on a trio of three-pointers.
Mount Union's Rosa LaMattina led all scorers with 21 points. Amanda Rose scored 18 points, while Kori Wiedt and Aly Daniel added 14 and 12 points, respectively.
For the game, Marietta shot 38.3% (23-of-60) from the floor, 40.0% (6-of-15) from three-point range and 72.7% (8-of-11) from the free throw line.
Mount Union hit 31-of-64 (48.4%) from the floor, 5-of-13 (38.5%) from behind the arc and was 21-of-31 (67.7%) at the charity stripe.
The Purple Raiders won the rebounding battle 40 to 37. Marietta turned the ball over 21 times to just eight for Mount Union.
The Pioneers are back on the road this Saturday, January 7th for a 3 p.m. tip-off in Tiffin against Heidelberg University.
