Baldwin-Wallace defeats Women’s Basketball

Box Score BEREA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's basketball team could not withstand a hot Baldwin-Wallace squad as it fell on the road 91-59 Saturday (Jan. 21) afternoon. The loss drops Marietta's overall record to 9-8 and 4-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin-Wallace is now 10-7 overall and 5-5 in OAC play. [Box Score]

The Yellow Jackets drained 8-of-12 from three-point range in the first half to build an early lead. Baldwin-Wallace led 51-29 at halftime and cruised to the victory.

Freshman post Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) led the Pioneers with 14 points and four rebounds. Junior post Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) scored 10 points in the loss. She is now three points shy of 1,000 career points. Freshman post Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) added nine points and grabbed a game-high seven boards.

Natalia Simovic led Baldwin-Wallace with 12 points and six rebounds. Megan Frisina and Nancy Coulter each scored 11 points on the afternoon. Jessica Lairson and Jessica Carpenter both added 10 points and four rebounds in the win.

Marietta finished the game shooting 39.2% (20-of-51) from the field, 40% (4-of-10) from three-point range and 71,4% (15-of-21) from the free throw line.

Baldwin-Wallace shot 50.8% (31-of-61) from the field, 68.8% (11-of-16) from three and 78.3% (18-of-23) from the free throw line.

Baldwin-Wallace out rebounded the Pioneers 39-28 and committed only seven turnovers to Marietta's 13. The Yellow Jackets finished the game with 25 assists on 31 of its field goals.

The Pioneer women are back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 25) evening as it will host Muskingum University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
