The loss drops the Pioneers' record to 8-7 overall and 3-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital improves to 9-5 overall and 4-3 in the OAC.
Marietta led for most of the contest except for on two occasions, one of which happened to be at the end of regulation. 18 Pioneer turnovers to Capital's nine proved to be the difference in the ball game as the Crusaders led in the points off turnovers category 12-11.
Sophomore guard
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) led all scorers with 22 points, draining 6-of-7 from three-point range. Dixon also dished out four assists.
Junior post
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) scored 20 points to go along with seven boards, three assists and three blocks. She is now 29 points away from eclipsing the 1,000-point barrier.
Junior guard Kristeva Rowe chipped in with nine points and three assists while sophomore guard
Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) scored eight. Freshman post
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) scored six while grabbing a game-high 11 boards.
Cookie Geroski led Capital with 20 points and nine rebounds. Jamie Caton scored 16 points off the bench for Capital, while Hilary Kuhns scored 15 with five assists. Shalena Hawkins scored 10 points to go along with her 10 rebounds.
Marietta finished the game shooting 53.6% (30-of-56) from the field, 58.8% (10-of-17) from behind the arc and 56.3% (9-of-16) from the free throw line.
Capital finished the game shooting 43.1% (31-of-72), 44.4% (8-of-18) from three and 50% (10-of-20) from the charity stripe.
Both teams finished the game with 38 rebounds.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon as they play host to John Carroll University for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
