The Tartans improved to 3-2 on the season. The Pioneers, playing their first road match of the season, fell to 4-1 in 2011.
Junior right side hitter
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led the offense with seven kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) notched six kills. Freshman setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) had a team-high 12 assists and added seven digs.
Junior libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had 18 digs in the loss. Freshman middle blocker
Natalie Lanham (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) posted six blocks, while senior
Meredith Storey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) had five.
Marietta will look to regroup when it participates in the Penn State-Behrend Tournament Friday and Saturday, September 9th and 10th. The Pioneers will play four matches. The first two matches will be Friday against D'Youville College at 5:30 p.m. and Kenyon College at 7:30 p.m. Marietta will then take on Hiram College Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and host Penn State-Behrend at 2:30 p.m.
