MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team lost to Transylvania, Ky. by the score of 3-0 Sunday afternoon in the final match of the Marietta College Classic. With the loss the Pioneers fall to 1-1 on the season, while Transylvania is 2-1 overall. [

Transylvania senior midfielder Elizabeth Schmitt opened the scoring in the 37th minute when she connected on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box.
Freshman forward Alyssa Kruse scored a pair of second half goals as Transylvania controlled the ball most of the period. In the 68th minute, Kruse took a cross from junior midfielder Natosha Boden inside the 6-yard box and beat MC's keeper for a 2-0 lead. Junior Ashley Cobane picked up the assist on Kruse's final score in the 85th minute.
For the game, Transylvania took 25 shots to Marietta's nine. Transylvania held a slim 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Kara Hansel had three saves in the shutout. Marietta's junior goalkeeper
Kelly Sommers (Shaker Heights/Shaker Heights) recorded eight saves in her first start of the season.
