MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday in the Pioneer Classic. The Pioneers defeated Washington and Lee (Va.) 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-16) and lost to Geneva (Pa.) 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-14). Marietta is now 8-9 overall. [

Against Washington and Lee, junior
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) had a match-high 13 kills and three blocks. Freshman
Natalie Lanham (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) added 11 kills, while sophomore Kathryn Hanssen added nine kills and three blocks.

Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) recorded 41 assists and seven digs. Junior libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had a match-high 18 digs.
In the Geneva match, Lanham and sophomore
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) each tallied 14 kills. Lanham added a pair of blocks. Mauer notched 36 assists and Braun had 20 digs.
The Pioneers continue Ohio Athletic Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Mount Union for a 7 p.m. match.
