Six different Blue Streaks scored in the match. Kayla Acklin tallied the first score of the match in the 18th minute with an assist from Kelly Kertis. Kertis picked up the assist on JCU's second goal in the 27th minute by Kaylin Akerly. Genny Goergen and Rachel Grdina scored the final two goals of the first period for John Carroll.
Amanda Buxton and Ashley Huebler scored second period goals to give the Blue Streaks a 6-0 lead. Marietta's goal came in the 84th minute whensenior midfielder
Cara Nuss (Dayton/Carroll) found the back of the net with an assist from classmate
Tessa Harlow (Whitehouse/Anthony Wayne). It was the second goal of the season for Nuss.
For the match, John Carroll outshot the Pioneers 24-6 and held a slim 3-2 lead in corner kicks. Junior
Kelly Sommers (Shaker Heights/Shaker Heights) and sophomore
Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) each played a half in goal for Marietta. Sommers had five saves and Pearse had four.
The Pioneers return home tomorrow for a 3 p.m. match against Waynesburg (Pa.).
