Women's Soccer Loses 1-0 Thriller

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College women's soccer team lost to Washington & Jefferson College (Pa.) by the score of 1-0 Wednesday afternoon.  The Pioneers drop to 1-5-1 on the season, while the Presidents are 4-3 overall. [Box Score]

A scoreless battle through 86-plus minutes was finally broken when a cross from Chrissy Marcius into the 6-yard box found Tatum Marucci's foot. Marucci slipped the ball past Marietta keeper Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) for the game winning goal.

Washington & Jefferson took 21 shots in the match to Marietta's nine. The Presidents controlled play in the second half outshooting MC 9-1. W&J led in corner kicks 4-1.

Pearse had 13 saves in the match for Marietta. Stephanie Saussol posted the shutout in goal for the Presidents. Saussol recorded six saves en route to the clean sheet.

Marietta opens Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday at 4 p.m. against John Carroll in University Heights. The Pioneers return home for a 3 p.m. non-conference match against Waynesburg (Pa.) on Saturday.
