ERIE, Pa. – The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches on the final day of the Penn State-Behrend Tournament. The Pioneers lost to Hiram College 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 26-24) and defeated the host school 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-9). Marietta is now 6-3 on the season. [

In the Hiram match, junior right side hitter
Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) led the Pioneer offensive attack with six kills. Senior libero
Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston) had four service aces to go along with 14 digs. Senior right side hitter
Meredith Storey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls) and freshman middle blocker
Natalie Lanham (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) each had a pair of blocks.
Three Pioneers had double-digit kills against Penn State-Behrend. VanGundy had a team-high 15 kills, while sophomore middle blocker Kathryn Hanssen had 13 and sophomore outside hitter
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) added 10. Freshman setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) recorded 44 assists. Mauer also had 11 digs in the match.
Braun had a team-high 15 digs and also added a pair of service aces. Freshman defensive specialist
Brittney Merritt (Akron/Copley) recorded five aces. Lanham blocked five Penn State attacks and VanGundy blocked two.
Marietta travels to Steubenville to take on Franciscan University at 7 p.m. Wednesday, September 14th.
