The Pioneers (8-17, 4-14 OAC) were led offensively by freshman
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County), who connected on 9-of-14 from the field and 5-of-7 from long range, to finish with a team-best 23 points. Sophomore
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central) added 17 points and seven rebounds and classmate Kristeva Rowe had six points in the loss.
Lee Jennings paced John Carroll (14-11, 9-9 OAC) with a game-high 34 points while also contributing seven assists and six rebounds. Emilee Ritchie followed with 19 points, while Allison Lustig also reached double figures and had 14 to go along with five boards.
Rowe hit a pair of free throws four minutes into the game to give her team a 10-8 advantage. The points triggered a 16-2 Pioneer run to give them a 22-10 lead with 12:25 left in the half. John Carroll slowly began to fight back into the game and Marietta took a 38-35 advantage into the intermission.
The second half was controlled by the Blue Streaks as they opened the period with a 21-0 run and cruised to the 25-point victory.
Marietta finished the game shooting 42% (23-of-55) overall and 44% (7-of-16) from beyond the arc. John Carroll shot 48% (31-of-65), including 35% (7-of-20) from three-point range. The Pioneers out rebounded the Blue Streaks 38-32 but were on the wrong end of a 21-4 difference in turnovers.
