MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College and the University of Mount Union battled to a 3-3 double overtime draw Saturday afternoon in men's soccer. The Pioneers are now 1-9-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Purple Raiders move to 6-4-2 and 1-0-2 in the OAC. [Box Score]

Marietta was poised for its first OAC win after scoring back-to-back goals late in the second half to take a 3-2 lead. Trailing 2-1, sophomore midfielder #Miles Alexander (Bellbrook/Bellbrook)# sent a cross into the 6-yard box where junior defender #Ben Federici (Findlay/Findlay)# managed to deflect it into the goal in the 69th minute.  Several minutes later Alexander sent a long pass into the 18-yard box to senior midfielder #Dustin Zimmerman (Hebron/Granville Christian Academy)# who buried it in the lower right-hand corner for his second goal of the day.

The Purple Raiders forced overtime when sophomore goalkeeper #Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta)# attempted to clear the ball but his kick deflected off of Purple Raider Joey Trocchio and into the Pioneers' goal.

Mount Union opened the scoring in the first half when Thomas Beck dribbled into the 18-yard box and shot the ball into the upper left corner of the net in the 29th minute. The Pioneers responded 10 minutes later as Zimmerman tallied his first goal with an assist from Alexander and freshman midfielder #Drew Williams (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley)#.

Mount's Anthony Grenga gave the Purple Raiders a 2-1 lead in the 48th minute off an assist from Kevin Cindric.

Stollar recorded nine saves in goal for Marietta, while Jon Critell had three for the Purple Raiders.

For the match, Mount Union took 24 shots, including 12 on goal, and 11 corner kicks. Marietta had 14 total shots, six on goal, and took two corners.

The Pioneers host Muskingum University Tuesday at 4 p.m.
