MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking double overtime loss to John Carroll University Tuesday afternoon. The Blue Streaks escaped with a 1-0 victory to up their record to 6-5 overall and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Marietta is now 1-9, 0-2 in the OAC. [

After a first half that was pretty even between the two teams, John Carroll controlled play most of the second period. The Blue Streaks outshot the Pioneers 15-3 in the second half and had a 6-0 edge in corners.
The best scoring opportunity in regulation came when JCU junior midfielder Jon Smola hit the post in the 68th minute.
Each team had one shot on goal in the overtime until the game-winner. On a play worthy of Sports Center's Top 10 Plays of the Day, senior defender Jake Milli drove a direct kick from near midfield into the 6-yard box where fellow senior Joey Grace was waiting in a crowd of players. Grace bicycle kicked the ball past the Marietta keeper for the game-winning goal with just 12 seconds left on the clock.
For the match, John Carroll took 30 shots, including 11 on goal. Marietta had nine shots, five on goal. The Blue Streaks held a decisive 12-1 lead in corner kicks.
