Capital downs Men's Soccer

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Marietta College men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 Ohio Athletic Conference match at Capital University Tuesday afternoon. The Pioneers fall to 2-12-2 overall and 1-5-2 in the OAC. Capital moves to 8-8-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the conference. [Box Score]

Capital jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. Sophomore forward Tim Reiser scored with an assist from junior Luke Froehlich.

The Pioneers tied the score, 1-1, in the 52nd minute when sophomore midfielder #Zach Hill (Lowell/Marietta)# had his first shot blocked and then got off a follow-up shot for the goal. The goal was Hill's first of the season.

The Crusaders' junior defender Tyler Fountain headed in a corner kick from senior Dan McCarthy in the 61st minute for the game-winner.

Marietta just missed the equalizer in the 81st minute when a header by #Keith Schwendeman (Lowell/Marietta)# hit the crossbar.

Sophomore defender Nick Eley gave Capital an insurance goal in the 84th minute to make the score 3-1.

Sophomore #Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford)# had three saves in goal for the Pioneers. Capital keeper Bob Weisbarger had a pair of saves.

Capital outshot the Pioneers, 15-7, and had a 6-3 lead in shots on goal. The Crusaders took seven corners to Marietta's five.

The Pioneers finish the regular season on Friday when they host Ohio Northern in a 4 p.m. match.
