MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers swept Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 and and the lost to Thiel College (Pa.) by the same score. [Pitt Box Score] [Thiel Box Score]

Marietta is no 14-13 overall. Pitt-Greensburg falls to 8-19 on the season and Thiel moves to 16-10.

The set scores against Pitt-Greensburg were 25-10, 25-9 and 27-25.

Freshman middle blocker #Rachel Hackenburg# led the Pioneer offensive attack with eight kills and a .583 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitters #Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto)# and #Elizabeth Robbe (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park)# each had five kills.

Junior setter #Ally Jenkins (Twinsburg/Walsh Jesuit)# returned to the starting lineup and recorded 27 assists. Defensively, junior libero #Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston)# had 14 digs and three service aces, while Robbe had seven. Jenkins added three blocks in the match.

A close match the entire way, the set scores against the Tomcats of Thiel College were 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20.

Sophomore outside hitter #Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green)# had 12 kills to lead the Pioneer attack. Junior right-side hitter #Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# added nine kills, while freshman middle blocker #Natalie Lanham (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington)# had five.

Freshman setter #Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North)# had 26 assists and 11 digs. Braun had a team-high 22 digs and a pair of aces. Sophomore middle blocker #Kathryn Hanssen# had three blocks, while Mauer and DeVriendt each had two.

The Pioneers close out the home portion of the regular season schedule on Tuesday when they host Capital University at 7 p.m.
