MARIETTA, Ohio – The No. 6-ranked Heidelberg University volleyball team swept Marietta College, 3-0, Friday night. The Student Princes posted set scores of 25-18, 26-24, and 25-19. The loss drops the Pioneers to 13-12 overall and 4-3 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Heidelberg improves to 25-2 and 8-0. [Box Score]

Heidelberg came out of the locker room firing on all cylinders as the Student Princes jumped out to an early lead in the first set. Heidelberg recorded 13 kills and just one error in the set for a .400 team hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter #Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green)# led the Pioneers with nine kills in the match. Junior rightside hitter #Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# added eight kills and 11 digs. Senior #Meredith Storey (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Falls)# had seven kills and two blocks.

Freshman setter #Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North)# directed the Pioneers' offense with a match-high 30 assists. Junior libero #Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston)# had a team-best 12 digs.

Marietta closes out the non-conference portion of the schedule tomorrow with a pair of matches. The Pioneers take on Pitt.-Greensburg at 11 a.m. and Thiel College (Pa.) at 1 p.m. Marietta will honor its three senior prior to the morning match.
