MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team posted a pair of 3-0 victories on Homecoming Saturday. The Pioneers defeated Wilmington College 25-13, 25-12 and 25-10 and then downed Franciscan University 25-19, 25-19 and 25-10. “It was great to get two more wins today, including another important OAC win,” said Marietta head coach Ray Costa. “Next up is Otterbein on Tuesday, so we have to work hard to refocus and prepare ourselves for another key conference matchup.”

Sophomore middle blocker #Kathryn Hanssen# led the Pioneers with 14 kills and three blocks against Wilmington. Junior #Alex VanGundy (Powell/Olentangy Liberty)# added eight kills, a pair of blocks and three service aces. Sophomore outside hitter #Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green)# chipped in with six kills and two blocks.

Freshman #Lauer Mauer# and junior #Ally Jenkins (Twinsburg/Walsh Jesuit)# split time at the setter position. Mauer had 25 assists, while Jenkins recorded 13.  Junior libero #Jen Braun (Chagrin Falls/Kenston)# had a match-high 15 digs and added three aces. Senior #Alex Weissling (Dublin/Dublin Scioto)# notched three aces as well.

The Pioneers avenged an earlier season loss to Franciscan with today's sweep.  DeVriendt and VanGundy led the offensive attack with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Freshman middle blocker #Natalie Lanham (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington)# posted seven kills and three blocks.

Mauer directed the Pioneer offense with 30 assists. She also led the team with four blocks. Braun's 27 digs was a match-high.

The Pioneers travel to Westerville on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. match at Otterbein University.
