Another Double Overtime Draw for Men's Soccer

MARIETTA, Ohio – Double overtime, again. For the third straight match, the Marietta College men's soccer team went into overtime. The Pioneers played to a 1-1 draw with Muskingum University Tuesday afternoon. Marietta is now 1-9-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Muskies are 6-7-1, 1-2-1 in the OAC. After a scoreless first half, the Pioneers drew first blood 11 minutes into the second period. Senior midfielder #Michael Lomas (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Kentwood)# dribbled across the centerline and sent a long pass to the top tight corner of the 18-yard box.

Sophomore midfielder #Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington) collected the pass and had a one-on-one with Muskie goalkeeper Hunter Huffman. Eick buried the ball into the back of the net for a 1-0 Marietta lead in the 56th minute.

19 minutes later, Marietta's junior defender #Ben Federici (Findlay/Findlay)# was called for a very questionable foul in the box giving Muskingum a penalty kick. Senior Cam Jonard's shot into the upper right corner tied the match, 1-1.

Both teams had good scoring opportunities in the extra time but could not seure the game winner. The Pioneers lost starting goalkeeper #Matt Stollar# to an ankle injury in the 82nd minute. Fellow sophomore #Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford)# had one save in relief. Stollar recorded four saves before exiting the match. Huffman had five saves for the Muskies.

An evenly played match, Muskingum took 19 shots to Marietta's 18. Both teams had six shots on goal. The Pioneers won the corner kick battle, 6-3.

The Pioneers travel to Wilmington College this Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.
