Sophomore standout
Aleisha Guiler (Lower Salem/Monroe Central), the reigning OAC Player of the Week, scored a game-best 17 points for Marietta (7-7, 3-4 OAC), who trailed 37-35 at the half but was outscored 42-21 by Capital (10-4, 5-3 OAC) over the final 20 minutes.
Senior
Mallory Hoff (Newport/Frontier) continued her strong play and finished with 12 points and team-high six rebounds. Freshman
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) added seven points and nine assists, sophomore Kristeva Rowe had seven points, three assists and three steals, while junior
Rachel Jones (Dublin/Coffman) collected six points.
The Pioneers shot 24-of-55 (43.6%) overall but just 4-of-15 (26.7%) from beyond the arc. The Crusaders finished 28-of-65 (43.1%) from the floor and 4-of-8 (50.0%) from long range. They also outscored the Pioneers 19-4 at the free throw line and out rebounded them 48-24.
Four Capital players scored in double figures. Stacy Timmerman led the way with 15 points,
Lauren Geroski and Shalena Hawkins both had 12, while Christine Schwartz added 10.
Marietta will look to bounce back Saturday (Jan. 15) afternoon when it plays host to John Carroll University (7-7, 2-5 OAC). Tip-off on Fenton Court is slated for 2 p.m.
