MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team was on the short end of a 2-0 score against the College of Mount St. Joseph in the consolation game of the 2010 Marietta Soccer Classic Sunday (Sept. 5) morning at Marietta Field. [

The Lions struck quickly with a goal in the third minute. Jessica Smith sent a corner kick into the box, which was headed past the keeper by Brittany Bowman for the score.
Mount St. Joseph added an insurance goal in the 82th minute. Macie Smith carried the ball from the midfield, beat the Pioneer keeper who was charging out to challenge and calmly sent the ball into the open net.
The Lions out shot the Pioneers 20-12 overall and 10-5 in shots on goal.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) made two saves and allowed one goal in the first half, while sophomore
Kelly Sommers (Shaker Heights/Shaker Heights) made four saves and allowed the other goal in the second half.
Following the game, defenders
MacKenzie Boyles (Fairmont, W.Va./East) and
Holly Simms (Pickerington/North) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Marietta returns to action Wednesday (Sept. 8) afternoon when the Pioneers visit the College of Wooster for a non-conference match-up at 4:30 p.m.
