MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's soccer team could not put away a nine-men College of Mount St. Joseph in the final game of the 2010 Marietta Soccer Classic Sunday (Sept. 5) afternoon at Marietta Field. As a result, the two teams tied 1-1. [

The Lions (0-2-1) out shot the Pioneers (0-0-2) 19-16 overall and finished with an 11-5 lead in shots on goal.
Marietta freshman keeper
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) made 10 saves and earned All-Tournament Team honors for his effort on the team's opening weekend. Freshman midfielder
Zach Hill (Lowell/Marietta) and sophomore forward
Brandon Siringer (Willowick/Eastlake North) joined Stollar in receiving All-Tournament Team honors.
A Lion player was sent off with a red card in the 28th minute, giving the Pioneers a one-man advantage.
Marietta appeared to have taken a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute when junior midfielder
Dustin Zimmerman (Hebron/Granville Christian Academy) laced a shot past the MSJ keeper but he was whistled for being offside and the play was negated.
Freshman forward
Keith Schwendeman (Lowell/Marietta) finally broke the scoreless tie in the 37th minute. Classmate
Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington) advanced a pass from the midfield to his teammate standing on the penalty kick line. Schwendeman headed the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net for the goal. It was his first of the year.
Mount St. Joseph tied the score in the 49th minute when Tim Pope bent a 30-yard shot over the keeper's hands, off the right post and across the end line.
A second Lion player was sent off in the 95th minute after receiving his second yellow card, extending Marietta's man advantage to two players. Marietta, however, could not convert the game-winning goal and the match-up ended in a tie.
The Pioneers resume their season Saturday (Sept. 11) afternoon when they visit Defiance College for a non-conference match-up at 3 p.m. Marietta will then return home Sunday (Sept. 12) afternoon when Bethany College visits Marietta Field for a game at 3 p.m.
