#22 Kenyon Defeats Marietta Men 2-0

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College men's soccer finished its non-conference schedule with a 2-0 loss to visiting #22 Kenyon College Tuesday (Sept. 28) afternoon at Marietta Field. [Box Score]

The Lords (7-1-1) controlled the possession for the majority of the game, but the Pioneers (0-7-3) had their defense turn away each scoring opportunity in the first half.

Kenyon, who out shot Marietta 24-3 overall and had a 10-0 advantage in shots on goal, broke the scoreless tie on a set piece off a corner kick in the 58th minute. Miguel Barrera sent the corner kick into the middle of the box and Peter Nolan finished the play with a shot past the keeper from eight yards.

The Lords stretched their lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute. Again, the goal came directly after a corner kick. This time, Dan Toulson deflected a loose ball in the box to Lewis Williams-Gray, who fired a shot past the keeper.

Marietta's offense turned up its intensity over the final 10 minutes. Junior midfielder Dustin Zimmerman (Hebron/Granville Christian Academy) and freshman forward Keith Schwendeman (Lowell/Marietta) both produced shots but missed their marks and the game ended 2-0.

Marietta freshman Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) continued his stellar year by making eight saves in the loss.

The Pioneers open Ohio Athletic Conference play Saturday (Oct. 2) afternoon when Baldwin-Wallace College visits Marietta Field for a kickoff at 1 p.m.
