Women's Soccer Draws 1-1

MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College women's soccer collected its first tie of the season with a 1-1 outcome against visiting Geneva College Saturday (Sept. 25) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers moved their record to 2-6-1, while the Golden Tornados remained undefeated at 8-0-2. [Box Score]

Marietta's offense produced a handful of scoring chances in the first half but couldn't convert its opportunities. In the 15th minute, junior midfielder Danielle Staub (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) received a cross inside the six-yard box but her shot hit the left post and deflected out of bounds.

Geneva broke the scoreless tie in the 40th minute. Maura Allen beat the Marietta keeper with a shot inside the far post from 15 yards away for her ninth goal of the season.

The Pioneers tied the game in the 63rd minute. Sophomore Erin Panczyk (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) sent a cross into the box. Her pass was headed by freshman Melina Feitl (Broadview Heights/Holy Name ) over the keeper's head and into the back of the net.

Marietta continued to have chances to break the tie in regulation and in overtime but could not get the shots on target and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Pioneers finished with a 24-17 advantage in shots and an 11-7 lead in shots on goal. Freshman Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) collected six saves in the no decision.

Marietta is back in action Tuesday (Sept. 28) afternoon when the Pioneers visit Gambier, Ohio, for a 4 p.m. match-up with Kenyon College.
