Women's Soccer Suffers Fourth One-Goal Loss

Presidents top Pioneers 1-0

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Host Washington & Jefferson College defeated Marietta College 1-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday (Sept. 22) night. [Box Score]

Wednesday's outcome marked the sixth time in the first eight games that the fate of the Pioneers was determined by a single goal. Marietta, who fell to 2-6 overall, is 2-4 in those games. The Presidents, who improved to 4-4, captured their first one-goal victory in four chances this season.

Washington & Jefferson out shot Marietta 6-3 overall and held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior midfielder Cara Nuss (Dayton/Carroll) and sophomore midfielder Erin Panczyk (Twinsburg/Twinsburg) both had scoring opportunities in the first half but were denied by the President keeper. The Pioneers were then held without a shot on goal in the final 45 minutes.

Washington & Jefferson scored on its sixth and final shot of the night. Holly Shipley sent a low cross to teammate Marissa Pattison in front of the goal and Pattison chipped the ball into the back of the net for the game-winner in the 70th minute.

Freshman Kaitlyn Pearse (Galena/Olentangy Orange) finished with three saves in the loss.
