Keith Schwendeman (Lowell/Marietta) opened the scoring in the 38th minute. He received a forward pass from sophomore forward
Tim Hemenway (Albion, Mich./Harper Creek) just inside midfield and carried the ball toward the keeper before firing a shot past him and into the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
The Presidents tied the score in the 42nd minute when Sam Sesito worked his way through the Pioneer defense and scored on a shot from eight yards out. The goal was his first of the year.
Both keepers then came up with big saves in the second half and in overtime to preserve the 1-1 draw.
Washington & Jefferson finished with 18 total shots, including seven on goal. Marietta had 13 shots, four of which were on goal. Marietta freshman
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) had six saves, while a pair of President keepers combined for three saves in the 110 minutes
Marietta is back in action Friday (Sept. 17) evening when its visits Newport News, Va., for a non-conference match-up with #2 Christopher Newport University. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The Pioneers then take on Methodist University in Fayetteville, N.C., Sunday (Sept. 19) at 12 p.m.
