MARIETTA, Ohio — Junior midfielder #Tessa Harlow (Whitehouse/Anthony Wayne)# broke a scoreless tie in the 98th minute to lead the Marietta College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over visiting Bethany College Sunday (Sept. 12) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers, winners of two straight, improved to 2-3, while the Bison fell to 2-2. [Box Score]

Marietta out shot Bethany 20-11 overall but trailed in shots on goal 10-6. It was the final shot, however, that sealed the victory for the Pioneers.

Marietta's offense earned a corner kick with 2:26 to play in overtime. Junior forward #Christina Tirpak (Galena/Olentangy)# sent a ball into the six-yard box, which was cleared but only to the top of the penalty box. A charging Harlow met the ball with a first-touch shot that sailed over the keeper's head and into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Sophomore keeper #Kelly Sommer# made 10 saves in the victory. Bethany's Brittany Sadler had four saves in the loss.

The Pioneers will look to extend their win streak Saturday (Sept. 17) when they visit Christopher Newport University for a non-conference match-up at 5 p.m.
